Gas-a-holics unite!
So, I’ve been watching the news lately where they have been rabbiting-on about the cost of gas (like we missed it somehow). There was one idiot station owner out in Chantilly who actually raised his prices up to $5.99 for about 3 hours on Thursday. Needless to say, he was forced to lower his prices and he closed his station for the rest of the day… I hope it was out of shame and because he was arrested for price gouging :)
All of this has reminded me of the gas crisis in the late 70’s (yes, I know… I’m old, hehehe) it was during the summer of 78 and all of us youngsters thought it was a party. Our parents didn’t want to wait in line for gas so they let their children do it for them. They had implemented an odd/even rule where the last number on your license plate determined what day you could buy gas. All of the kids in the surrounding neighborhoods would get in line several hours before the station opened and we would have these impromptu get-togethers. We’d play frisbee, lay in the sun on the hoods of our cars, mount expeditions out for sustenance from MacDonalds, or flirt and have a good time stooging off. I remember two brothers who had to share their parents old ‘family truckster’. It was a station wagon in a revolting shade of harvest gold with the faux wood on the side. Hideous car but they brought the speakers from the family stereo, which were about 3 feet high and 2 feet wide, and hooked them into the car stereo so that they could blast music from the top of the car. Nothing like really loud and obnoxious music to turn any activity into an instant party!
I look back fondly on that gas crisis… I am not looking fondly on this one!

See, I look at your blog every now and then. Anyway
Since I live in L.A. where you can't go to the bathroom without a car, I spent labor day at home because its now $3.20 for regular gas. I am seriously considering buying a donkey "Equus asinus" or two, they are more fuel efficient, provide fertilizer for the garden, and if you get a male and female one they produce their own replacements. They are also much more durable than the junk coming out of Detroit, can act as guard animals and alarm clocks, and you can eat them if you REALLY need to. Try that with a Ford POS.
