Itching for Harry

I admit it… I’m a book geek. Furthermore, I am also a Harry Potter geek :)

I didn’t pick up on this series of books until the fourth one came out. My brother recommended them to me and I said “What?? Read a kids book voluntarily? For pleasure?” It turns out that they are books about kids not just books for kids. All of them are ripping good yarns.

Anyway, I tell you all of that to tell you this. In preparation for the sixth book coming out on Saturday I have reread the fifth book to refresh my memory and man, what a whiner Harry has become. I realize he is now 15 years old and is supposed to be a self-absorbed, put-upon whiner but sheesh! There are parts of this book that are almost unbearable and are definately cringe-worthy.

So, all teenage hormonal spikes aside (Harry’s, not mine, hehehe), I am really looking forward to Saturday when the nice UPS man delivers my shiny new copy. I will sit right down and do nothing else until I finish it, which should be sometime late Sunday :)

Summer Fun - a blast from the past

I was watching Earth, Wind, & Fire on the Today show this morning and it brought back some really great memories from the late 70’s and early 80’s. At that time Funk, R&B, Motown were huge… we were into EWF, The Commodores, Parliament Funkadelic, Bootsy’s Rubber Band etc. It was great stuff for dancing and just generally boogying around, while drinking beer or (for the girls) Malt Duck (I know, I know.. but it was cheap, sweet and tastest like Kool-aid with a kick).

All this reminiscing got me thinking so I decided to unearth the stack of old concert tickets that I have saved over the years. I found one for an all-day ‘Summer Fun’ concert in 1979 that was headlined by The Jacksons (Again, I know…). This was after they quit using The Jackson 5 and right before Michael went out on his own.

Anyway, the fun thing for that day was all of the bands leading up to the headine, which we pretty much ignored at that point :) Watching George Clinton (and others in P Funk) come down to the stage in huge plastic space eggs just cannot be beat. Even back then the boy was on some serious “Adult-type” medications, hehehe

First dance recital

Is this absolutely the cutest little ballerina on Earth? Well, I think so :) (she will shortly, however, be challenged in that title by her younger sister) My niece had her very first dance recital last Saturday. It was so much fun to watch all the little ‘Divas-in-the-making’ especially Miss Thing here… she definately has a flair for the dramatic.
